17 Do not render harmful afflictions to anyone even if they have committed harmful afflictions against you; instead perform what is honorable before all people (even those who have done you wrong). 18 If (at all) possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people. 19 For those of us who have experienced (God’s) sacrificial love on our behalf, (when we are wronged,) we ought never to try to set things right on our own, instead we should leave room for God’s passionate ordered correction. For it is written: “To set things right is Mine, says the Lord and I will render (to each) appropriately.” 20 Instead (of trying to set things right on our own, when someone wrongs us, remember what the scriptures say), if someone who’s against you is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head. 21 (and so) Do not be overcome by harmful afflictions (that others have done to you), but instead overcome (their) harmful afflictions by (doing) good (to them).
